The Debevoise & Plimpton Budapest office, which opened in March 1991, is permanently staffed with two American lawyers, two Hungarian lawyers and a legal assistant. The office regularly draws on the capabilities of the firm's offices in London, Paris and elsewhere to perform a wide range of privatisation, financing and commercial work, including corporate, tax and commercial advice in connection with joint ventures and other international commercial contracts.

We regularly represent such clients as the ÁPV; Rt (the Hungarian Privatisation and State Holding Company), the Hungarian airport authority, the International Finance Corporation, Bankers Trust Company and its Hungarian affiliate, Bankers Trust Rt., Bank-Austria GiroCredit Investment (Budapest) Rt., Creditanstalt Rt., OTP Brokers and the Westel Group, a US West affiliate that operates cellular telephone systems in Hungary. Other clients have included the First Hungary Fund, Pick Szeged Rt., one of the largest food manufacturers in Hungary, the Danubius Hotel chain and Columbian Chemicals.
